Least to Most Expensive Shops

Think this will fit in my suitcase?

  • Book Off (selection is a crapshoot)
  • K-books (get point card for free stuff)
  • Mandarake
  • Animate
  • Toranoana

Toranoana — home of both Gaijin lovers and haters alike (yes, there’s a story or two to this)!

It certainly pays to shop around for figures and BJD accessories.  I find Toranoana to be pricier when it comes to figures, but sometimes that is the only place to find what you are looking for.  The K-Books in Akihabara usually has a wonderful selection of older figures, some at very good prices.

New manga prices are the same all across the board.

Usually, new doujin prices are the same as well.

What does differ, however, are used manga and doujin.  I have seen variances of up to ¥500 for used manga and doujin.  While K-Books is generally cheaper than Mandarake, it isn’t always the case.  Try and form a consensus as early as possible during your shopping expeditions, but do not dwell too much.

There really is no point in kicking yourself about spending a little more in one shop, when you’ll likely also spend less in others.

Remember, you are on holidays too!
