If you do not have a lot of time to spend on your trip, focus on the geographical region that satisfies your main genre of interest (see above). The above noted distinctions are not cut and dried, however, let them be your guide. But generally speaking, hentai and items of interest to men will be found in Akihabara, while BL and items of interest to women will be found in Ikebukuro.
If you are looking for something specific, on the other hand, try the unpopular locations for that genre. For instance, try the Toranoana in Ikebukuro for a new H release that seems to have flown off the shelves in Akihabara.
Prioritize what is most important to you. Gather the information and then organize it into priority and region.
